NHS Acute Trust

Assisting a large NHS trust improve the quality and efficiency of their catering, retail and vending services.

NHS Acute Trust

Background

Our client is one of the largest Acute Trusts in the UK.  To ensure best value was being achieved they identified the need to review and rationalise catering, retail and vending services operating at a number of hospital sites through a mixture of outsourced contracts and in-house arrangements.

The Challenge

Many disjointed service contracts had evolved over time, leading to increased costs and inconsistency in the quality of services across the Trust.  Our challenge was to determine a long term strategy for service delivery and to put plans in place to achieve this over a period where individual contracts were expiring.

The Solution

Litmus undertook a 360 degree strategic review of the current service provision which took into account consumer insight gathered from customers and key stakeholders to allow their views to be included into the options appraisal for the future service delivery.

The Results

  • Litmus appointed to create and apply a critical path to achieve greater efficiency and more appropriate arrangements
  • Litmus appointed to manage and co-ordinate a bundled services tender
  • Reduction in cost due to the integration of services under a single supplier
  • Patient and staff/visitor feeding modernised with an associated increase in consumer satisfaction
